Inspiration

I know we are all working hard to make the world a little bit better. But even kickass social justice warriors (or mages, or rogues, or whatever class you prefer) need a little extra motivation from time to time. Here are a few of the things that inspire me. I hope they help you as well.

In case you need a reminder... you are amazing!
I just love this poem. I revisit it whenever I'm feeling a down or frustrated or a little powerless. You are amazing. As.you.are. Stronger than you know. More beautiful than you think. Worthier than you believe. More loved that you can ever imagine. Passionate about making a difference. Fiery when protecting those you love. Learning. Growing.

Quote of the Day
I've been thinking about this concept of self-knowledge quite a bit lately. As I get older, I find I am more comfortable with myself. Things about myself that used to make me worry about how other people might judge me don't really seem all that important anymore. Things that I would like to change about myself are part of the work-in-progress that I am. I don't carry around nearly as much shame as I used to.

Quote of the Day
In honor of today's news about the upcoming Wrinkle in Time movie, here's my favorite Mrs. Whatsit quote."Life, with its rules, its obligations, and its freedoms, is like a sonnet: You're given the form, but you have to write the sonnet yourself." - Mrs. Whatsit

Role Models - Billie Jean King
In college, she had to work two jobs to pay her way, even though male tennis stars were on full scholarship. If you ever needed a reminder of why Title IX is so important, just think of that. She said it was that realization that lead her to push for more equality in sports and in politics.

Shout out - Major Tammy Duckworth
In 2004, while studying for a Ph.D. in political science with a focus on political economy and public health in southeast Asian at Northern Illinois University, she was deployed to Iraq. On November 12, 2004, the Black Hawk helicopter she was co-piloting was hit by a rocket propelled grenade. She fought to land the helicopter as safely as possible, which she did.
